Local Wounded Veteran Receives New Home Built for Accessibility

BATH, N.Y. (WENY) -- It was a joyful day for a local Afghanistan war veteran and his family, who receive the keys to their new home on Tuesday.
"It's hard to put into words to be honest with you. I mean, I watched this project from start to finish and its something I struggle with thinking about deserving it," Brent told WENY News.
Staff Sergeant Brent Nadjadi was deployed in Afghanistan in 2010 with the U.S. Army when he was critically injured by an IED. After dozens of surgeries, he eventually lost both of his legs. This made life at home very difficult; Brent and his family lived in a home where basic tasks were challenging, or even dangerous for an amputee.
But that changed Tuesday. Brent received a new, 100% handicap accessible home, tailored specifically to his needs. Allowing him to live life in the comfort of a home that works for him. It's thanks to Jared Allen's Homes for Wounded Warriors, which has worked for the past several months to create a safe and comfortable home for Brent and his family.
"Most important thing is this is the best project we've ever been apart of this is a beautiful home and I'm blown away its funny its all of those small town like this is America like this is it this is God's country, this is America, this is a community coming together this is friends and family this is blood, sweat, tears donations that were received on it this was everything that's great this is the fabric of our country and this is what makes me so proud to be an American," said executive director of Jared Allen's Homes for Wounded Warriors, Alex Karalexis.
Brent said he is looking forward to setting into the new space, and the impact it will have on his family.
"I can't wait to see the impact that my kids have more of a sense of normalcy been bouncing around a lot for the last two years I think its fitting that this is home just very humbling to say the least," said Brent.
