AFSCME 46TH INTERNATIONAL CONVENTION August 10th-16th Los Angeles CA

When:
August 10, 2024

Every two years, thousands of AFSCME members and retirees from across the nation get together to discuss issues of vital importance to our communities, our workplaces and our union. Through open discussion of the issues that matter to public service workers and working families, delegates set our union’s priorities, renew shared commitments and strategize to make us stronger.

In the last few years, our communities have faced historic challenges, and public service workers, many of them on the front lines, have responded with bravery and determination. As union members, we have confronted existential threats, but we have shown that we can rise up, never quit, and remain all together. As a result, we are stronger than ever.

Since the founding of our union in 1932, there have been 45 International Conventions. This year, for our 46th gathering, we are Front Line and Fearless.

Convention Pre-Registration

Pre-registration for the AFSCME 46th International Convention is now open. All delegates, alternates and guests MUST pre-register.

Pre-registration ensures that you will have hotel accommodations and that any special needs you may have are met. It also allows AFSCME to keep track of the number of attendees. Please note that returning your delegate or alternate credential forms to the International Union does NOT pre-register you for the Convention.

Housing Registration

All housing reservations for AFSCME’s 46th International Convention are coordinated by AFSCME’s Conference and Travel Services Department. Please review “Information You Need to Know Before Booking Your Hotel” before making your reservations.

It is extremely important that AFSCME attendees use rooms that are under the AFSCME-contracted room blocks. AFSCME will incur financial penalties if delegates, alternates and guests book their own rooms or use hotels not listed here. AFSCME has negotiated daily Convention hotel rates that include taxes. Please note that the room type cannot be guaranteed until the time of check-in.

Please be advised that in order to be in AFSCME’s contracted room block and receive our negotiated rates, your reservations CANNOT be booked DIRECTLY through your assigned hotel(s) via their website or by calling them. ALL housing reservations for AFSCME’s 46th International Convention MUST be booked by AFSCME’s Conference & Travel Services Department by visiting the Pre-Registration website.

Through the AFSCME Convention registration website, you can book, modify or cancel your hotel reservations. All Convention attendees MUST pre-register. Returning your delegate and alternate credential form does not pre-register you or indicate your need for housing.

Housing Reservation / Modification Deadlines

  • Housing Deadline: The housing registration deadline is July 1, 2024. Reservations will be handled on a first-come, first-served basis. Reservations made after July 1, 2024, will be confirmed based on hotel rates and availability. Please note that the room type (king/double) cannot be guaranteed until the time of check-in.
  • Modification/Cancellation Deadline: July 15, 2024, is the final day that AFSCME’s Conference & Travel Services Department can accept changes or cancellations. Please contact the hotel directly after this date.

Housing Payment

The AFSCME Los Angeles hotel blocks are no longer accepting checks for hotel reservations. A credit card is required at the time of booking to guarantee each guest’s reservation for one night.

The credit card will only be charged for the first night of the room and tax, not the full stay, after July 12, 2024. If your affiliate is covering your hotel stay, you are responsible for ensuring that your payment method on file is updated by July 12. This is to ensure that your credit card on file is not charged for the one night’s room and tax.

To reserve and pay for your hotel accommodations, the following options are available:

  1. HOTEL DIRECT BILL – Affiliates have the option to set up a direct bill with their chosen hotel to cover all their delegates. This is the easiest and most direct form of payment. Affiliates should reach out to CONVpayments@afscme.org to request an application for their own credit and direct billing with the hotel. Once direct billing is approved with the hotel, affiliates would work directly with the hotel on payment and invoicing. If only partial credit is allowed, CTS will work with affiliates to cover discrepancies under AFSCME Direct Bill (see Option 3 below).

  2. CREDIT CARD – Affiliates or individuals may use their credit card to reserve and pay for hotel accommodations. Whether using an affiliate or personal credit card, you will need to input credit card information into CVENT in advance to secure the booking. The credit card information will be shared with the hotel to secure the hotel room. If a guest's room is being paid for by an affiliate or someone not the guest staying in the room, a credit card authorization link must be completed prior to the guest's arrival.

  3. AFSCME DIRECT BILL – In the event that an affiliate is unable to reserve and pay for hotel accommodations using one of the above options, AFSCME International will work with affiliates by using AFSCME’s Direct Bill option for Convention housing payment. Affiliates will pay their balance to the International via bank wire or ACH. All affiliates that use this method of payment must contact their bank for guidance on sending the payment. You must contact CTS at CONVpayments@afscme.org for AFSCME’s ACH information and instructions for payment.

When housing closes on July 1, AFSCME will send hotel invoices to affiliates with a payment form. THE PAYMENT FORM MUST BE FILLED OUT and returned with payment of balance via bank wire or ACH no later than three weeks before the convention (July 22). Discrepancies and changes to billing will be invoiced to the affiliate following convention (which can take 6-8 weeks when final invoices from hotels are sent back to the International).

If you have additional questions, please contact CTS at 202-429-1169.
