Jeanette Tavares shares a powerful message on stepping up and making a difference in your union. Want to grow and create change? Get involved—become a shop steward, a grievances rep, or a liaison. Show up when called to rally and fight for members’ rights. Leadership notices those who put in the work, and that’s how opportunities open up. Jeanette started as a member just like everyone else—and now she’s on the board. If she did it, so can you! From school safety sergeant to a respected Teamsters leader, Jeanette has dedicated her career to protecting workers' rights and empowering women in the labor movement. With 28 years in school safety, she founded the first Hispanic Society in her division and fought tirelessly as a shop steward and grievance representative. Inspired by her father’s union leadership, she transitioned into Local 237, where she now represents over 1,100 members across law enforcement agencies. Passionate about mentorship, Jeannette leads efforts to elevate women in the Teamsters, ensuring they have a voice and a path to leadership. Her story is proof that perseverance, advocacy, and solidarity can change lives.#UnionStrong#GetInvolved#LeadershipThroughActionThe ULA Network is proud to support, educate and promote career opportunities within the International Brotherhood of Teamsters.
