The George Meany Award is presented to union members who have made a significant contribution to the youth of their community through Scouting.
Proceeds will benefit the Scouting program in Suffolk County. For more than 100 years, Scouting America – Suffolk County Council has provided a premier character education program for local youth. Guided by the Scout Oath and Law, Scouting builds strong character, encourages community involvement, and develops the leadership skills essential for future success.

John Guadagno began his electrician career with Local 25 International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers in 1983.
He was elected to the Examining Board, Executive Board and appointed Treasurer in 2006. From 2006 he served as Business Representative/Organizer/Employment Manager for Local 25 until he was elected President in June 2014. John served as a trustee on the Pension Fund, Annuity Fund, 401K Fund and the Joint Apprenticeship Training Committee. He was also elected as Delegate to the International Office Convention of IBEW in 2011, 2016, and 2021. He serves on numerous boards throughout Long Island: United Way, Crime Victim Center, Bill Lindsay Memorial, and the Suffolk County Scouting America.
Born in Brooklyn in 1962, John moved to St. James in 1966 and attended Smithtown East High School. He achieved the rank of Eagle Scout for Troop #7. He graduated with a four-year Electrical Technology Degree from SCCC. He also completed NJATC Train the Trainer Program from the University of Tennessee. John had been active in his community as an Assistant Scout Master for the Boy Scouts of America Troop 7 in St. James and has volunteered his time in a number of community projects throughout Long Island. He has also been a mentor to the Ryan Anthony Head Start Fund (helping young people to get a career in the various trades on Long Island).
John and his wife, Anne, live in St. James and have four children: Lisa, married to Scott; Adam, married to Kristen; Kimberly, married to Jim and Michael, married to Gustavo. They also have six grandchildren: Abigail, Dylan, Rachel, Grace, Charlotte
and Riley.
