The ULA Network would like to thank Arthur Cheliotes, President Emeritus of Local 1180, Communications Workers of America AFL-CIO, who served as president for 11 consecutive terms from 1979 to 2017 for taking the time to sit with the ULA Network to discuss his background, history and experience serving and supporting union labor and our communities.
Arthur discussed his early beginnings working in civil service and how he rose through the ranks to become CWA Local 1180s Union President. We covered his work in educating, supporting and serving the membership and retirees of Local 1180, and his continued service sitting on the Labor Advisory Board of the CUNY School of Labor and Urban Studies. As a respected labor leader, Mr. Cheliotes has been a strong advocate for Worker Education, Pay Equity, and the Enforcement of Civil Service Laws. Mr. Cheliotes has dedicated particular effort to advancing the prospects of female and minority members, focusing on achieving pay and promotion parity, providing on-the-job training, and ensuring access to higher education.
The Communications Workers of America, Local 1180, represents more than 9,000 workers and 6,200 retirees.
